Speaker’s Series, Eileen McGuckain, Rockville Library Meeting Room #1, 10:00 AM Eileen McGuckian will be speaking about Rockville's history and Peerless Rockville, “an award-winning nonprofit, community-based organization founded in 1974 to preserve buildings, objects and information important to Rockville's heritage.”
10th Annual American Indian Festival, Executive Office Building, 101 Monroe St., 10AM – 5 PM. This colorful and information-packed festival features authentic presentations and food. My family particularly enjoys the performers and authentic jewelry. The Grand Entry parade of dancers will begin at 1PM. Take advantage of this great educational opportunity, especially if your kids are studying American Indians in school.
Washington National Opera Presents, Twinbrook Library, 1 PM. A volunteer will provide an interactive program about Hansel and Gretel, the opera, by Engelbert Humperdinck. They’ll be storytelling and crafts for ages 5 and up.

Sunday, November 11
Veteran’s Day Ceremony, Veteran’s Park, 11 AM. Special wreath laying ceremony. We all drive past this park with its large flag between Rt. 355 and Rt. 28. I see it daily on weekdays. The foliage is always red, white and blue to honor our soldiers. Take the time to stand in Veteran’s Park and show our respect for and appreciation of our Veterans.

Veteran’s Day Benefit Concert by The Rockville Men’s Chorus & the Rockville Singers, F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater, 7:30 PM. This very special performance honors those who have served and those who are serving in the armed forces. No admission will be charged but donations will be accepted to raise funds to support families visiting their military family members who are receiving treatment at Walter Reed Army Hospital and the Bethesda Naval Hospital. Sponsored by the City of Rockville and Community Ministries of Rockville.

Ocio Jazz Ensemble, Twinbrook Library, 7 PM. A program of jazz and popular music from this DC –based ensemble. Recommended for adults and children over the age of 5.
Friday, November 16
A Concert of Music by Washington Area Women Composers, The Mansion at Strathmore, 11 AM. FREE. Although I do not usually include performances at Strathmore, Rockville Central Team Member, Jenny R’s friend, Winifred Hyson, is one of the composers featured. Jenny says, “It’s a really neat piece of music!” Her piece is “Under the North Portico”. Other composers are Wang An-Ming, Leslie Bennett, and Jo Lombard. This concert is presented to the community by The District of Columbia Federation of Music Clubs.

Special Pre-Thanksgiving Farmer’s Market, City of Rockville, Corner of Rt. 28 and Monroe Street, 9AM-1PM. Many readers have been telling me that the Farmer’s Market is not really ended for the season because you have this one last opportunity to purchase some extra-special harvest items for Thanksgiving. Check out Amy’s review. She finally convinced me!
Twinbrook Community Pool, Yard Sale in the pool parking lot at 13027 Atlantic Avenue, 9AM-Noon. You can rent a 20 x 17 ft. space for $20 by making a reservation by mail (P.O Box 705 Rockville MD 20848) before Nov. 13th and keep your proceeds. Inauguration Ceremony and Reception, F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, 1 PM. Welcome our new Mayor and City Council at this ceremony, followed by a reception. Everyone is invited! At least I think so. The City's website is not highlighting this event nor does it show up on the Theatre list. You can tell my frustration is mounting after 5 months of event blogging. There is a mention of the ceremony in the link above. But really folks, we shouldn't have to struggle with the website to find information on events.
Rockville Concert Band, F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, 4 PM - 6 PM Stars, Stripes and Sousa! The Rockville Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Vincent Patterson, is celebrating 50 years with music of Sousa, Wagner, Cohan and others. FREE, no tickets required.
