Montgomery County Farm Tour and Harvest Sale. 10AM -- 4PM. Says the County: "Spend a day or two in the country petting farm animals or having lunch by a scenic pond. Purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, plants and more. It's an educational experience and a great family outing!" The 19th year! Use this map and pick your farm. Make an afternoon of it.

Rockville Express vs Youse’s Maryland Orioles continued from 6/14 so check schedule, Montgomery College Rockville, Knight's Field, 1 PM. Free Admission to all Home Games, which are family-friendly with souvenirs and food from O'Brien's Pit Barbeque.

I like Eric because he found me on myspace and sends me messages, which means he's really reaching out to people and is dedicated to his music. He grew up in PG County. Last month his new CD was very much liked in The Washington Post.

Victorian Lyric Opera Company (VLOC), Theatre on the Lawn, Grassy Area behind the Cottage, Rockville Civic Center Park, 7:30 PM. Light opera, Gilbert and Sullivan.

Friday, August 1

Patty Reese, First Friday Deck Party, 6th Floor Deck above VisArts at Rockville, 5 PM – 8 PM. You must be 21 years old to enter the deck and be able to prove it. She’s won many awards and played with some big names, so stop by and hear her sing. Free. $ for light meals and drinks from La Tasca.

Art After Hours, VisArts at Rockville, 6:30 PM – 9 PM. The Galleries are open and the artists are working in their studios so explore. Enjoy wine and cheese as you view the new exhibit “From Farm to Market “ in the four galleries. Eleven local artists look to food for their inspiration. Free.

HearArts, VisArts at Rockville, 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM. Experience the literary combined with music. This month features Mel Belin, poet, writer and author of “Flesh That Was Chrysalis” and Terry Mulligan acoustic guitar/author.

National Philharmonic Choral Institute Performance, Richard Montgomery High School, 8 PM. Free. Adults from area choruses, such as the Rockville Chorus and National Philharmonic Chorale, will be joining the Summer Institute high school students for this concert.

Forensics 101, Rockville Library, 2 PM. For ages 5 and up. “Bugs, Garden, Food” will teach how investigators use bugs and plants to solve crimes. Who else likes CSI?

Teen Movie, “Eight Legged Freaks”, Rockville Library, 3 PM. Rated PG-13 for teens 13 and up.

Rockville Express vs Bethesda Big Train, Montgomery College Rockville, Knight's Field, 5 PM. Free Admission to all Home Games, which are family-friendly with souvenirs and food from O'Brien's Pit Barbeque. The Rockville Express are picking up steam and are in third place in the league. This is a big game as the BigTrain has been doing well.

Dixie Power Trio, Concerts in the Square, Rockville Town Square, 6 PM – 8 PM. Dixieland and Zydeco Dog. Do the Zydeco!

Friday, July 18

Rockville Rotary Twilight Runfest Festival, Rockville Town Center at North Washington Street, 7 PM – 11 PM. Race begins at 8:45 and registration will be $35 on race day after 4 PM to benefit the Rockville Recreation Fund. The Fun Run 1K starts at 8:50 & registration is $10. Check the website to see if registration is full otherwise you can walk up and register. Rock and Roll Review performing at 7 PM and 9:30 PM. Experience Rockville’s “biggest block party.”

Here’s the word directly from them: “Costume prizes, so wear your Hottest Threads and dress up as your favorite 80's movie character or celeb personality! It's going to be a RAD party filled with WICKED beer, food, music, a silent auction and BIG Hair. *Note* If you plan on getting Sauced, please make sure you have a designated driver. Preschool Films. Twinbrook Library, 10:30 AM. Oooooh! These are three of my absolute favorites: "Harry the Dirty Dog", "Agnus and the Ducks", and the most excellent "Officer Buckle & Gloria". That Officer Buckle has a lot to learn about letting others have the spotlight when they deserve it.

TCAT (Town Center Action Team) Meeting, Rockville City Hall, Blue Crab Conference Room, 7 PM. David Levy will give an update on Town Square. Jack Gelin will give a status of the postal service available at the Rockville Frame Shop. (Read our review.) The new chair, Joe Jordan, will be taking suggestions for the group’s mission and priorities.

Both my kids are looking forward to the fun and I can’t wait to see the skits and songs. Carnival games, moon bounce, & food. Proceeds benefit various recreation programs.

Thursday, July 3

Storyteller Arianna Ross presents “Nature’s Rhythms”, Rockville Library, 2 PM. Ages 5 & up. You’ll get to hear insect noises made with instruments from around the world.

Ocean Quartett, Concerts in the Square, Rockville Town Square, 6 PM – 8 PM. These women are WAMMIE winners who play traditional Celtic music and award-winning originals, as well as some of the songs from Jennifer Cutting’s British folk-rock band, The New St. George.

F r i d a y , J u l y 4

Rockville’s Independence Day Celebration, Montgomery College Rockville Campus, 7 PM – 10 PM. The fireworks start at 9:30 PM. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs as stadium seating is limited. Parking in the campus parking lots and in the lot at Mannakee St. & Rt. 355. It can take up to one hour to leave these parking lots. Live music including Redline (classic rock) at 7 PM on the campus stage., In the football stadium, the Fugitive Brass Quintet will play at 7 PM and the Rockville Concert Band at 8 PM. No grilling. Food vendors. Recycling is encouraged.

Guitar Hero Tournament, Rockville Library, 1:30 PM. Not your typical library program for high school and middle school students. Snacks and door prizes too.

Bob Sima, Concert in the Square, Rockville Town Square, 6 PM – 8 PM. **Cindy’s Pick** I’ll be at the concert, so join me if you know me, or come on over and introduce yourself! Bob won the Wildflower Singer-Songwriter contest earlier this year and is a finalist in the 2008 Kerrville Newfolk Competition. He’s a talented man whose lyrics will touch your heart. He was a guest on last week’s Rockville Central Radio show. Join me for an evening of quality music from a local Maryland artist who will be playing songs from his soon-to-be-released CD “Periphery”.
